A Little More than a Little Lime

Last Monday Adam and I celebrated St. Patti’s day a couple days early with some friends.  I volunteered to bring dessert because of my calendar.

Yes, my calendar.  This year I couldn’t find any calendars with pretty scenery that I liked.  And then I found one with huge, gorgeous pictures of cakes with fantastic recipes.  So March’s recipe was a lime bundt cake and lime icing.

Thus, the cake:

It turned out pretty well.  The cake baked fine and the icing was the right consistency.  It just had too much lime.  It wasn’t awful, but it was tart.  I don’t really think that a cake should be described with the adjective “tart.”

Nadia Marie

A couple weeks ago I went up to Minnesota for a friend’s baby shower.  We’ve been friends since freshman year of college and lived together our junior year.  I’ll never forget the wedding cd and “Ever After” with Drew Barrymore.  And Gilmore Girls!  Tiff is the first one from my college girl friends to have a baby, so it’s very exciting.

Thought I’d show you what I made for her.  It’s really been a long time since I made some onesies.

This is the pail that I tucked two onesies in.  The nursery is purple with pink and I  think yellow.  So hopefully this pail can be used for something later.

This is one of my favorites.  The baby will be Nadia Marie.  So pretty.  (I had been worried when the dad was talking about Felix earlier on.)

This one was just for fun.  ‘Cause I am sure that Nadia was made with love.  :)

October Randomness

Yes, it is almost December, and I am blogging about October. Just a few notes…

See the old yogurt container in front of Mel? That is the scoop we used for her food. Have used it for weeks. This day, she turned it into her toy. She is still playing with it.

the-toyWe went to an awesome pumpkin patch with our small group and their kids. This is the corn cannon. Of course boys would need to shoot something.

Here is the harvest. Little Ty liked pushing the wheelbarrow.

And here is a project we (and when I say we, I mean I said what I wanted and Adam did the work).

Here are the shelves in the breezeway/mud room. Eventually we’ll build nice, huge cabinets. But that’s a few years away. In the meantime, it just wasn’t enough room for pantry items, cleaning products, cookbooks, etc.

beginning

So here is the fancy, dancy shelving system. I told Adam since it would be totally temporary, that plywood would be fine. We’re going for function not looks.

wood

There’s my handyman. Too bad he’s not facing the other way. Would have been a better picture for me to look at. ;)

starting-shelves

One shelf in. Now this space is an addition, only a few years old. Yet, the width in the back of that “closet” space is TWO inches smaller than the front! (Not that that means a lot to me, but Adam was shocked.)

in-progress

The finished product! I wasted no time filling it up. I kept running back into the living room to tell Adam thank you. I love that he can just create things out of thin air.

finished

So now those original shelves are completely functional. I’ve got almost two shelves just for food storage, all of my cookbooks have a home, and we even created a drop spot for mail, bills, pens, etc.

end

So those are the highlights of October 2009. I’ve got a few more posts ready. Including another project. And I did this one!

Long, Dusty Days

oct_12_2008 copy

Melody is quite happy with her dad's new happenings at work.  She starts licking his shoes, pants, hands, etc as soon as he walks in the door.

Today we taught Sunday school.  When we were taking prayer requests, one girl told us about a sister of her friend who was really sick.  Through a few questions and later a phone call, we realized that this was the daughter of a couple in our small group.  Their preschool-aged daughter had already been sick for four days when we met last Tuesday.  Turned out her appendix had ruptured a week ago!  She was taken to a children's hospital 1 1/2 hours away.  Her dad seemed relieved to at least know what is going on ( the past week and a half they had been in and out of the doctor's office and all they heard was "It's just constipation").   Later this week she will have surgery to clean out her abdomen and then hopefully will go home.  I was scared when I got sick this spring, I can't imagine being that little and going through the same thing.  Please keep her in your prayers.

After Sunday school we went to church and then Adam left for work.  I went over to a new friend's house (she and her husband are in our small group too) and us and her 1 year old daughter when to our church's fall festival.  It was way too warm, but the leaves at the park were GORGEOUS!  Yummy hot dogs and caramel apples.

Adam's biggest excitement of the day was a new haircut.  It had been getting pretty shaggy.

Another week started.  Another week of waiting for directions.

Wedding #2

So we didn't actually go to wedding #1, but anywho...

So Labor Day weekend was a trip to MN, primarily for one of my best friend's, Tiffany, wedding.  Well, vow renewal.  March 2007, Tiff's then boyfriend Luke since 2001(?) got his orders to leave for Iraq.  Well, they had decided that this wouldn't happen unless they were married.  So there was a small wedding with just family and such.  Luke is now home safe and sound, they just bought a house and Tiff will graduate (with a job already!) from the U of MN Pharmacy program.  So this was a HUGE celebration.  Very personal ceremony, good food and lots of dancing.  Not to mention beautiful weather and a gorgeous location.

Bad lighting, but we're still hot ;)

Off Again

Yes, I know I have not even posted about our last trip yet, but I've been "busy" finishing other projects.  Next week I'll do a few longer posts.

This weekend it is Tiff's wedding/vow renewal.  They got married last March, but that was just a small ceremony.  This is the big party now that Luke is back home.  They have the same DJ company that we did so the dance should be pretty fun.

Friday morning and all day Saturday I plan to spend in the pool.  So the sun and temp had better cooperate.  Then Sunday is the big moving day.  I really hope she's no higher than 2nd floor.  And that the temp cooperates opposite of Saturday.

Youth Group leader meeting was tonight.  Seems like it'll be a good time.  The youth pastor is really on the ball and has his heart focused.  Looking forward to working with a small group and meeting some new people.

Very crafty day for me.  Finished Kristi's and Grandma and Grandpa Strong's September calendar pages.  (Their Christmas gifts last year were empty calendars.  Each month I send them a new page.  For the most part.  When I was sick I got a little behind, then worked way far ahead.)  This month their pages ended up being the same. Then I finished up another wedding card pack, but won't post that yet.  Just in case the bride does happen to read this.

Going to bed now.  I have strict orders to be completely ready to walk out the door when Adam gets home tomorrow.  And lets face it.  I have a lot to do.  Oh crap!  One more crafty thing to finish.  Goodnight!

I love weddings!

Really, weddings are wonderful. We had a couple years where we had LOTS, then last year was a big dry spell. I guess we're making up for it this fall. Some college friends are getting married in three weeks. Then, one of my best friends, Tiffany, is having her big wedding/vow renewal the following week. They had a very small ceremony when her hubby found out he was going to Iraq for a year. Well, he's back now and time to celebrate big! Later in September some family friends are tying the knot. October is a friend from high school and the old neighborhood. Anyone else want to invite us to their wedding? :) I am making a (in my opinion) really neat gift to go with the real gift. I bought these clear card boxes and am making a set of 10 cards for each couple. Just a nice set of everyday notes to use for whatever.

Heard back from the YMCA on Thursday. I had been stressing because I knew I'd have to give them an answer before my interview at the library. Well, the lady at the Y said we could meet on Friday, otherwise not until the 11th of August! Well, being dumb, I said Friday because I wanted to sound interested. Realizing my stupidity, I called her back and rescheduled for the later date. So, hopefully I get a good feel next Wednesday at my library interview.

I go back and forth about which job I really want. Like today I thought if I work at the Y, I'll always have my nights and weekends off. If I work at the library, I might have to work Saturdays and later at night. But then there's the whole baby thing too. Watched Cheaper by the Dozen 2 today and started just bawling when Nora had her baby at the end. Started out as normal girl/chick flick tears and then I realized that I was really crying. Hmm...

Adam's still working really hard. At least until 6pm everyday. This weekend he's in each day until 5pm. He says there's no shade and little wind so he's pretty hot all day, sweat dripping from his hat! Had a guy get upset yesterday about something and then tell a bunch of other guys, so business was slower in the afternoon. Just too bad. Another guy, who is normally grouchy, said that he really liked Adam and would be back. Wish he would go call a bunch of his friends.

The other night I got some mojo and tackled the back room. But only could do so much since Adam was sleeping. Now it's hot out here and since the AC doesn't really get back there, I've had to halt the project. Which meas our place has boxes everywhere again. It's supposed to cool down next week, maybe it'll cool off one night here too.

Grandpa had his appointment this week. The doctor said it most likely is cancer, but he needs another test next week to see if it has spread and then determine if they can operate. Mom said that he's decided he doesn't want radiation or chemotherapy, said he knew people who had it and it didn't help. Well, both of my grandma's sisters died from lung caner, so I guess he's seen what can happen, but I just...I dunno. Just keep praying.

"Wonder what the world would be like if we let Jesus live through you and me ... What if you could feel inside you the power of the hand that made the universe?" ~Big Daddy Weave
Just listening to the radio. That song always stops me and breathes in me.

Well, still not much happening around here. I did FINALLY, call my girlfriends. Out of 6, only one answered the phone, and she had to go right away. Pooh, serves me right for waiting so long. If any of you are reading this, I MISS YOU!

Okay, off to maybe do some work. If you know me well, you are probably laughing now. :)
